FEES GOING UP FOR SOCIAL WORK EXAMS

Hello Fellow Social Workers,
I wanted to make everyone aware, if you do not already know, the fees are going up from $175 to $230 for the Associate and Masters Level Exam and $260 for the Advance and Clinical Level Exam as of Jan. 1, 2010. Apparently, is due to how much it cost to write questions for each exam. It is more money to write tests questions for the Advance and Clinical. I am really frustrated about the increase because it is hard enough trying to pass the test and when you don't you have to pay each time. That is why WE must continue to advocate for increase of pay for social workers and as well for employment opportunities inwhich a license is preferred and not required...when you meet what I considered are the most important criterias for the job ! BE encouraged! As I mentioned earlier, I believe all you need is a good prep course and 2 wks of consistent studying ...and you will do well..do as the profession ask a Social Worker to do.. not as you may want to do and you will pass the exam at any level.. I ,miss it by a few points..but it had to do with not studying the information in which I knew would be an issue for me ..since I had no prior experience academic or otherwise with group counseling and some mental health perspectives ...but my prep ocurse booklet did cover it.. I just did not take the time to study it completely.. so I earned what I learned on my LMSW exam!

I know it is upsetting, but try not to get discouraged. I am definitely disappointed about the fees, but I am trying to concentrate on passing the Maryland clinical exam. I planning to take it next month. Good Luck to everyone and we will pass this exam, whether it be the Masters or Clincal, etc.

To be honest here, I am upset about this. Its bad enough that social workers do not get paid enough as it is and to pay that much for the exam is ridiculous. Its been difficult lately and who knows? I may take another path outside of the field, but we shall see.

Sandy, you are so right. I am going to study study study. I have study partner and we have been meeting at least 3x a week and then I do stuff on my own as well. Good Luck you with your studies and yes we are going to pass.

and don't worry ......that prevents full memory absorption.... just study study study and know that u know it....
