Social Work Exam Review

It's In There!

I took the master's level exam today for the 3rd time. I felt well prepared this time. I took a workshop through the NASW. Dr. Sophia Djegeleskia was the presenter. I am so discouraged about this test. I absolutely love my job as a discharge planner at our local hospital and I need to get my license. Does anyone have any suggestions or study material that is going to help me pass?

Have you taken the test again? If so, what did you do differently this time to help you pass. I have also taken the test 3 times and have been putting off taking it again since Jan 09. It's time I get prepared to take it again before too much time goes by. Did studying with someone help?

Tiffani,

I also took Dr. D's class and the info she gives is very helpful...unfortunately I didn't pass my LISW the first time. I am awaiting an extension to retake the exam in October. I have to be honest. I didn't study the way that I should have and once I got in forgot what I learned as far as taking standardized tests. I am an over analyizer and find that I put too much thought into my answers. I do great with the stuff I learned in school, but not the stuff I have to think about. Good luck to you! Keep it up and eventually all the hard work will pay off.

I turned in my application about 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet. I want to take it in July. When do you plan to take it?

it is no doubt that i am more than frustrated at this point 5th time going on my 6th spent over $2000 and almost lost my job and the feeling of going to last test location over and over again makes me so sick i feel like crying. Tiffany girl, the only thing for us to do is to keep trying and remember through Christ anything is possible, keep the faith

I was surfing the net and came upon this site. I was so happy to find a site where people were going through what I am presently going through. I have taken the Maryland Clinical Exam (LCSW-C) a couple of times and seem to get the score of 72 and 73. 73 being the last one. I have taken prep classes and bought the study guides. I guess the best thing to do is to keep practicing questions because this test is not about what you know, but how to answer the questions the way they want. To all of you who are taking the test again, I wish you luck and for those who tried to take the test again and did not pass. Just keep trying. I know it is frustrating, but we need great people like us to help make this world a better place for ourselves and others. I was listening to the radio on my way home and heard two songs. The lyrics said,"As long you keep your head to the sky, you can win" and they other song said, "Never give up". I really think it was a sign for me. Hang in there you wonderful Social Workers.

Hi Tiffany!
I feel your pain. I have taken the test 3 times and have not passed; I am scheduled to take the test for the 4th time next Monday May 18th. I know about the financial cost of trying time over time again to take the test and pay for the prep courses. I have paid out $1500.00 as of this time. My husband has also has been out of work for almost a year. It is so difficult to keep paying out the money after already spending thousands on the education. I am so so so so frustrated.

Hi Tiffany, I am sorry to hear that you did not make it this time around. My supervisor/friend always reminded me that a fail is a successful try. I too have taken the exam three times and failed. I am now planning to take the exam for the last time in June, with the plan of passing. I wish you the best as you continue to try.

I, too, am seeking a study partner. I plan to take the exam at the end of May. I started my job in March of this year and they told me that I had 6 months to take the exam, but since they've lost some licensed employers, I am now getting pressured to take it immediately!
